I've been doing some database maintenance today, so perhaps that's why this topic came to mind.

It would be nice if there were a way to query for ticker-symbol update events -- things like "symbol XYZ is no longer trading as of date MM/DD/YYYY", "symbol XYZ has changed to PQR as of MM/DD/YYYY", "new symbol XYZ has been added as of MM/DD/YYYY", etc.

Allen,

I don't know if we will ever develop true maintenence messages out the client feed (this is something we have at our ticker level). However, a few months ago we did start producing notices that customers could use to determine any changes. These files are available at http://www.iqfeed.net/symbolguide/ at the bottom of the page under "Notices". While it won't be the easiest to parse automatically, it should provide the info you need.

Thanks; it's a helpful start.
