Hi,

I see two ways:
a) running a symbol lookup and scan incoming symbol names for the one I am looking for
b) submit a watchlist request and watch for incoming messages

How if a symbol name is invalid ?
With (a) there is a problem, since I don't know how many messages will come in. This basically would require some timer based solution -> prone to errors.
Alternative (b) could work, since I experienced, that in the event of an invalid symbol name there is a dummy "Q" message coming in having the string "Not found" in the 4th field.

Is there any other way to check a symbol name for validity ? What's the official, recommended way ?

Regards

Dierk,

There is not another way to check for an invalid symbol. Either way will work. Thanks!
