Data and Content Support » When are Stock Splits distributed? Feb 2, 2005 09:18 PM (Total replies: 4)

no, MCRS (MICROS SYSTEM INC) doesn't show today as being the split date, but rather shows the last split date of 6/23/1998. the split factor is .5, but that was also the split factor on the last split.

CVCO, is now showing 2/1/2005, 0.5

could the system be sending the updates out one day late?

is the "Test platform" a receiver set up at your end that is downlinking the data? I'd assume that you're able to do such a closed loop check.

thank you for looking into this.

Data and Content Support » When are Stock Splits distributed? Feb 1, 2005 06:29 PM (Total replies: 4)

thanks for the reply.

I've checked it here and the Last Split Date and Last Split Factor for CVCO (CAVCO INDUSTRIES) didn't update today at all. I was not able to check until after 6:00p CT, and it hasn't updated yet.

were you able to check it at DTN on one of the test receivers?

Data and Content Support » When are Stock Splits distributed? Jan 31, 2005 05:05 PM (Total replies: 4)

When are stock splits distributed on DTN RealTime Satellite?

Will the last split date and factor always be available *prior to the market open* on the day that the stock first trades post split?

We'd like to be able to check the split fields to know whether the stock is trading post split before the market opens to distinguish between a split and a gap down (or up for reverse splits). 2:1 splits are more obvious, but 3:1, 3:2, etc are more difficult to detect simply using the previous day's close. Since the data is available in the feed, can we rely on split data to be timely and accurate?

TIA

thanks so much. i understand now the description of the VOL calculated indicators.

Using "(LAST)" in the description seems redundant to me -- also adds confusion.

are there other calculation's that use (OPEN) or something else that requires having (LAST) there to distinguish between them, or is this maybe a legacy thing that could be removed?

Quote:
These are calculated indicators that show what is happening with the volume for the AMEX, NYSE and National Market exchanges.

@VSAA, AMEX Vol Advnaces, is the total number of equities traded on AMEX that are "up" from the previous day's close.

How does @VSAA relate to volume? "up" from the previous day's closing volume???

the description you've given would seem to make sense for: @ISAA,AMEX ISS ADVANCES (LAST)
This also brings up a few more, as of yet, unanswered questions...
ISS I've been told stands for "ISSUES" -- is that correct? What does "(LAST)" mean?
and why would it be in the descriptions text? would it be to distinguish it from OPEN, HIGH,
LOW or something else?

Currently (after market close on 8/24/2004), @VSAA is 24284 --- there aren't 24284 total equities on NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX combined -- how could there have been 24284 "equities traded on AMEX"?

These are the values showing :

@VSAA 24284
@VSAD 21532
@VSAT 47497

I'm confused about your explanation. Can you please explain these numbers and more about the abbreviations and use of (LAST) in the description field?

TIA

Can you tell me what the following DTN calculated indicators are?

@VSAA,AMEX VOL ADVANCES (LAST)
@VSAD,AMEX VOL DECLINES (LAST)
@VSAT,AMEX VOL TOTAL (LAST)
@VSAU,AMEX VOL UNCHANGED (LAST)

@VSNA,NYSE VOL ADVANCES (LAST)
@VSND,NYSE VOL DECLINES (LAST)
@VSNT,NYSE VOL TOTAL (LAST)
@VSNU,NYSE VOL UNCHANGED (LAST)

@VSZA,NASD VOL ADVANCES (LAST)
@VSZD,NASD VOL DECLINES (LAST)
@VSZT,NASD VOL TOTAL (LAST)
@VSZU,NASD VOL UNCHANGED (LAST)

For instance currently:

@VSNA is 374,636
@VSND is 308,105

Why do the descriptions have the word (LAST) at the end? Would this be opposed
to OPEN, HIGH or LOW or something else?

Also, do you have detailed descriptions of all of the indicators and indexes?
The short abbreviated descriptions can be quite vague.

Data and Content Support » DTN.IQ vs IQFeed Main differences? Jul 22, 2004 12:47 AM (Total replies: 2)

I can't answer the first 2 questions, but as far as TRAX is concerned... TRAX works with the DTN RealTime satellite feed not IQFeed. The satellite feed is a broadcast feed -- all symbols are broadcast -- and the receiver receives data for every symbol. Providing that you have software that can manage the volume of data -- you can monitor every symbol in the market if you wish. For NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX stocks, that's about 14,500 symbols. Add to that another 136,000 or so if you subscribe to equity and index options. Plus futures.

For a comparison of the satellite broadcast feed versus Internet feeds:

Data and Content Support » Contract Size for Real Time Stock Options? Jun 11, 2004 06:47 PM (Total replies: 2)

Would it be possible to add CONTRACT SIZE to the Real Time Stock Options database?

splits, mergers and acquisitions often affect the contract size, causing it to deviate from the normal 100/shares per contract value. Option traders definitely need to know this important value, and if it could be available in the feed, it would be greatly appreciated.

DTN Satellite Products » ZZZZZZZZ, QMON and Test Symbols Jun 2, 2004 07:02 PM (Total replies: 3)

Would it be possible to get an all-inclusive and definitive list of the test symbols that are transmitted on the satellite feed and the algorithms used? in other words, frequency, times being transmitted, etc.

I'd like to filter these out, but I'm not sure what all test symbols are being sent since, AFAIK this isn't documented anywhere. Of course, they also appear in XREF files too.

I'd especially like to keep these filtered when scanning, so that they don't make a top 10 list. For instance the other day ZZZZZZZZ made the most active list in one of my scans.

Thanks in Advance.

Data and Content Support » Incremental Volume and Pre-market Activity May 26, 2004 10:23 AM (Total replies: 1)

Does the "incremental volume" field include pre-market trades for stocks?

I do see this field incrementing pre-market, but just need confirmation that the incremental volume will in fact accurately reflect actual pre-market trading activity.

DTN Satellite Products » NASDAQ Level II plus Equity Options May 25, 2004 12:58 PM (Total replies: 2)

I'm looking at adding support for NASDAQ Level II to TRAX.

Can the receiver (D8080) support NASDAQ Level II and Equity Options at the same time?

Currently TRAX enables the receiver on a database level (i.e., to receive ALL symbols for each database). I envision that for Level II, TRAX would have the capability to monitor,
say a few hundred Level II symbols using the database watchlist of the DTN receiver.

What would you think would be an upper limit on the number of symbols to feasibly watch
on Level II? (With and without equity options)

Pertaining to the satellite feed, (may apply to IQFeed as well)...

How can we obtain clear information on the source and description of symbols contained in the DTN Calculated Indicators (09000070), Statistics (09000062) and Indexes (09000060) databases?

To make this information useful, definitions are needed. The 32 character, sometimes cryptic, Issuer description, in some cases isn't enough to give one the confidence to trade off of the data. If it's not clear "what it is", it's probably not wise to base trading decisions on it. I guess what I'm getting at is, that the data would be much more useful, if we knew for sure what it is.

Would it be possible to get clear, definitive definitions of the symbols in these databases?

I believe this data could be very useful in trading, and having definitions would lend confidence in using it.

Also, many of the Issuer definitions have suffixes that I've never gotten a clear answer from DTN as to what they mean. For instance in the 09000062 (Statistics) database:

The symbol @ISA, the Issuer description is:

AMEX ISSUES ADV DEC S

what does the "S" on the end mean? Some have (LAST) on the end like @ISAA:

AMEX ISS ADVANCES (LAST)

what does (LAST) mean? Other suffixes are "I", "M", what do these mean?

These descriptions are also an example of the abiguity of "what it is". What is the
definition of ISSUES? Does ISS mean ISSUES? What exactly does AMEX ISSUES ADV DEC mean? All issues (stocks? stocks including ETFs?, including ETFs and Indexes?) trading on the AMEX Advancers divided by Decliners?

There are many abbreviations used throughout in the Issuer fields that can make understanding them less than clear.

Lastly, there is a great deal of overlap in the DTN Calculated Indicators (09000070) and Statistics (09000062) databases. Which are the preferred symbols to use for those that overlap? Will the Statistics database eventually be replaced with the DTN Calculated Indicators?

IQFeed Developer Wish List » Bulk End-Of-Day Data Download May 14, 2004 10:36 AM (Total replies: 1)

It would be great to have a facility in IQFeed to allow bulk end-of-day data downloading.

I'd like to be able to download, say all stocks EOD data for the last 5 years -- like an EOD
service may provide. Then the ability to fetch the last N days for all stocks without requiring
a request per stock symbol. The IQFeed server would get a request for ALL stocks EOD data between dates X and Y, build a zip file (compress), and return the file.

This would facilitate populating and maintaining a complete EOD database on the user's machine.

Even after-hours only would be great.

This would be great for our DTN RealTime satellite product TRAX since users want to populate historical EOD data for charting and systems backtesting, but the satellite service doesn't provide historical data, and currently requires another 3rd party EOD data service.

In the case of TRAX, the bulk download would primarily be needed to backfill historical
data, then TRAX would maintain the EOD database with the satellite data each day by executing an end-of-day process to save the satellite received EOD prices and volume.

DTN RealTime with IQFeed could be a great combination.

Jay,

I agree with David, the forum site looks great!

I didn't see Jim F's name on the member list though, I guess you're keeping him busy working on code -- ha.

I think the forums will be very helpful to all involved.
