"Boy, probably spent a thousand hours trying to get ******* API to work right. And now two hours to have something running with IQFeed. Hmmm, guess I was pretty stupid to fight rather than switch all this time. And have gotten more customer service from you guys already than total from them… in five years." - Comment from Jim

I downloaded the DTN.IQ one week trial to evaluate it. Nowhere did it warn me that it would
overwrite my IQFEED setup. I found this out after installation when I used my Iqlink account
with Excel. I noticed that an old problems I used to have a month ago started to appear. I didn't
understand it at first and tried to figure out what changed. When I realized what had happened I
uninstalled the DTN.IQ setup and reinstalled my IQFEED version 4.1.0.0 and everything was good
to go. I'm just wondering why the DTN Iqlink client wasn't updated when the IQFEED Iqlink client
was. Is there a reason why this didn't take place or are they even the same? I looked in the DTN.IQ directory and there were many components that I didn't recognize. Anyway, there gone now, I was hoping someone there can explain what's going on. My interest with the DTN.IQ was
its' ability to work with EXCEL and the reduced price -$44 vs $52. Is there any trade offs I should
be aware of in using DTN.IQ vs IQFEED?

Thanks for your help!

What is going on is you installed a DTN.IQ software package that is much older than the IQFeed software. IQFeed has more updated components, so installing DTN.IQ will change some registrations and points some IQFeed components back to the old DTN.IQ. The difference between the 2 is in subscription level only. A DTN.IQ subscription will give you the ability to watch up to 1300 symbols at a time, and use the DTN.IQ software. With an annual, non refundable payment, you will save some money with a DTN.IQ subscription. That special pricing will be going away shortly however, so if you want to lock in that annual discount, you should commit soon.

You can correct any of the issues you see after installing DTN.IQ by re-installing IQFeed. You will need to install IQFeed in the same directory as DTN.IQ (the IQFeed installer will do this automatically) in order for things to work properly.

I just signed up for DTH.IQ last week (following you sage advice above). However, I find that I am only getting 997 symbols before I get "S,SYMBOL LIMIT REACHED". After that the 997 appear ok, but I registered 1297 symbols.

I installed DTN.IQ today and then reinstalled IQFeed (version 4.0.0.2), letting the installer put files in the same directory.

Any advice or is this something you are working on...

Terry,

When you are logged in, what does it say for Maximum Symbols in the IQ Connection manager?

The answer is yes, the IQlink with the DTN.IQ installation is old. You MUST install IQFeed over top of the DTN.IQ installation for things to work properly.

I will say that it will be surprising if you can get 1300 symbols updating in real time via DDE. DDE is such old technology it just isn't really efficient enough to handle that much data. if you limit the number of fields to one, you "may" be able to watch that many symbols. It seems hit or miss for users regarding how much data they can effectively watch via DDE.

Jay,

I'm using tcp for updates, not dde. Is it still surprising that I only get 997 symbols? It does not seem to stress the machine or net. It is not that I cannot get the data in, but rather that the server gives me a symbol limit exceeded error message: "S,SYMBOL LIMIT REACHED". Actually, I picked TCP for it's efficiency. Would you recommend otherwise?

Terry

That is why I asked what the IQconnection manager is showing for Max symbols. The problem can be one of a couple things. First, when authorizing you for DTN.IQ, our admin group may have incorrectly only authorized you for 1000 symbols instead of 1300 (which will be shown in the connection manager). Second, I mentioned the DDE because the topic of the post is IQLINK, which is the DDE server for IQFeed. If you are using TCP to get the data, 1300 symbols will be NO PROBLEM. I have run (during stress tests) 10,000 symbols without issue, so 1300 symbols will definately not be a problem as long as you have efficient code processing the data.

Sorry I'm in the wrong group and I should have opened a new thread, but here I am. I checked the CUST system message this morning (I was truncating the message yesterday due to screen space restrictions and I don't know what it was then). It shows (pat yourself on the back) 1000 symbols. Who should I call to fix it?

Thank-you
